There are many on-line sources for locating information about the local and regional labor market. A few sources that you may want to try are:

Identify Your Skills
Identifying your skills is very important in career development and job searching. Various assessments are available at the Business & Employment Resource Center to help you identify your skills.

Computerized Skill Assessments
SkillCheck is a computer software program that measures a wide variety of knowledge, skills and aptitudes. Features include a combination of performance-based and knowledge-based skill testing. Assessments include:

  • MS Office 2000-2003: Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Operating Systems: Windows 2000, Windows ME and Windows XP
  • Typing: Measures speed and accuracy of typing
  • Data Entry: Measures speed and accuracy of keystrokes for data entry
  • Customer Service: Assesses an employee's attitudes toward Customer Service issues
  • Clerical Skills: Gauges one's ability to perform general clerical tasks

Additional Office Skills: Receptionist Skills, Secretarial Skills, Telephone Skills, Filing, Checking, Coding, Proofreading, Office Manager, Grammar and Letter Set-up

Reading and Math Assessments
New Century Education offers basic assessments in Reading, Math and GED prep and provides instructional software to assist in achieving proficiency in core curriculum subjects.

Career Assessments
CAPS/COPS/COPES is a paper test that will identify your abilities, values and interests in order to choose the right career. Please check the calendar for dates this test is offered.

On-line Assessments
There are many Internet based sites that offer on-line assessments for career development and job search. Some tests are free and others are for a charge so please read the site information carefully.
